PD&R's mission is to inform policy development and implementation to improve life in American communities through conducting, supporting, and sharing research, surveys, demonstrations, program evaluations, and best practices.

To accomplish these objectives and support the Department’s Mission, PD&R employs a wide range of professional and support staff in the following areas of specialization:  economists, social scientists, policy analysts, geographic information systems specialists, statisticians, housing researchers, public administration and legislative analysts, as well as the publishing and outreach team that brings PD&R’s research – and this website – to your desktop, laptop, and increasingly, your mobile device.
