U.S. Hosts ITU Council Reception

U.S. Mission Geneva
April 23, 2018

The United States hosted a reception in honor of delegates to the 2018 ITU Council and to express support for two women making outstanding contributions to the work of the ITU, Doreen Bogdan Martin, the U.S. candidate for Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, and Joanne Wilson, candidate for a second term on the Radio Regulations Board (RRB).

Theodore Allegra, U.S. Mission Geneva Chargé d’Affaires, and Robert Strayer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Cyber and International Communications and Information Policy welcomed guests including ITU Secretary General Zhao, ITU Council members and delegations. As the governing body of the International Telecommunication Union, the Council brings together member states, businesses and NGOs to coordinate policies and ensure the world’s communication systems work. The United States is proud to have been a member of the Council since its creation in 1948 and is currently seeking reelection for 2018-2022. We look forward to continuing our work with partners to strengthen and improve the ITU.
