About this Topic |
The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) obtains information about the sex of the victims for the nonfatal violent crimes of rape or sexual assault, robbery, aggravated and simple assault, and personal theft (purse-snatching and pick-pocketing). For property crimes, the sex of the adult household respondents who provide the information are obtained. Property crimes include household burglary, motor-vehicle theft, and other theft.
Victims of violent crimes and personal thefts are also asked to provide information about the sex of the offender.
