Mark Cassayre is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. He began his current position at the U.S. Mission in Geneva in August 2018. He most recently served in Washington, DC as Director of the Office of Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs in the Bureau of International Organizations.

Previously, Mark served as a Senior Advisor at the Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute, where he assisted the School of Language Studies with workforce development. From 2013-2016, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique. His overseas tours have included Nairobi, Kenya; Kyiv, Ukraine; Windhoek, Namibia; and Geneva, Switzerland. Domestically, he served in Washington, DC and was a National Security Affairs Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution.

Mark has a master’s degree in international relations from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and bachelors’ degrees in political science and French from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He speaks French, Portuguese, and Ukrainian.
