NIC encourages correctional agencies across the country to apply to host training programs in partnership with us! This will give your agency a unique opportunity to host an NIC training at your facility, which can 1) reduce or eliminate travel costs, and 2) give your agency the ability to train all staff at once or train more staff in a shorter period. Some of these programs are open to all correctional facilities, including jails, prisons, community corrections, and transition/offender workforce development agencies, while others are limited to participants from one correctional discipline (e.g. only jails or only prisons).
Each of NIC’s partnership training programs have their own selection criteria, application process, and falls into one of three categories: agency-specific programs, non-agency specific programs, and hands-on facility programs.
How do I know which program is right for my agency? How does the process work?
We invite you to browse available partnership programs and see what may fit your agency’s needs. After selecting an available program, follow the course description and instructions for expressing an interesting in hosting the program. Interested host agency agencies will be contacted by NIC partnership training program managers who will step you through the host selection process. If selected to host a program, selected host sites receive support from NIC and work closely with an NIC program manager before, during and after program delivery.
What type of Partnership Training Programs may be available?
NIC typically offers three types of partnership training programs: agency-specific programs, non-agency specific programs, and hands-on facility programs.
Agency-Specific Programs
In an NIC agency-specific partnership program, most or all of the program participants come from the host agency. Occasionally, these programs are offered to two or more neighboring agencies. Participants or their agencies are responsible for their lodging, food, and travel expenses. Program dates are negotiated with the host agency after site selection has been made.
Nonspecific-Agency Programs
NIC’s nonspecific-agency programs include a mix of participants from the host agency, and the majority of participants are from neighboring correctional agencies. Participants or their agencies are responsible for their lodging, food, and travel expenses. Program dates are negotiated with the host agency after site selection has been made.

Hands-On Partnership Programs
As a part of NIC’s Hands-On Partnership Training Programs, NIC asks the host site to provide facilities to tour, audit, or provide areas where simulated exercises may be conducted. Applicants from anywhere in the country may apply online individually or as a team. Unless otherwise specified for a particular program, participants from federal agencies (or their agencies) must pay travel costs. In most cases, dates are scheduled for hands-on partnership programs. Agencies applying should indicate on the site application which offering they wish to host.
