Science Education Department (SED) What's New in SED

The Science Education Department (SED) of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics develops curricula and materials that reflect current scientific and educational philosophy. SED staff includes education researchers, scientists, teachers, media specialists (see the Science Media Group's site), and graduate students who collaborate to identify and address the needs of science teachers and students in elementary, secondary, and college science, with an emphasis on grades K-12.

SED research and materials are widely available through print and CD-ROM, on the Internet and television, by teleconferencing, and at workshops and teacher conferences. Through its efforts, the SED aims to advance the public's understanding of astronomy and the physical sciences.

Support for SED projects comes from the National Science Foundation, Annenberg Media, NASA, the Department of Commerce, and others. Additional support is provided by the Smithsonian Institution, Harvard College Observatory, and the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
