Advancing the Digital Economy
The International Communications and Information Policy (CIP) division partners with foreign governments, U.S. businesses, and civil society to promote competitive and secure networks including 5G, which reflects U.S.’s collective interests and values. We work to support a multi-stakeholder approach to Internet governance by cultivating new allies through strong advocacy. We promote diplomacy in multilateral institutions, such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Internet Governance Forum (IGF), Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum’s Telecommunications Committee (TEL). Our objective is to protect U.S. telecoms through sanctions enforcement and supply chain security.
