Small Shipyard Grants
Small shipyards are a critical component of U.S. maritime operations and economic security, employing more than 100,000 Americans, fostering communities along and near our nation's ports and watereways, and contributing tens of billions in gross domestic product.
The Maritime Administration's Small Shipyard Grant Program is designed to support small shipyard projects that make capital and related improvements or provide training for workers in shipbuilding, ship repair, and associated industries. Supporting these types of projects drives efficiency, competitive operations, and quality ship construction, repair, and reconfiguration across the industry.
Grants are capped at 75 percent of the project's estimated cost and are available to facilities with fewer than 1,200 production employees. Additional information can be found here in the Federal Register.
Authorizing Statute
The Small Shipyard Grant Program was authorized under Section 3501 of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 (Pub. L. 115-232), codified at 46 U.S.C. § 54101.
