Our Mission

The Office of Strategic Stability and Deterrence Affairs (SSD) leads in the diplomatic negotiation, Congressional ratification, implementation, verification, and compliance analysis of both current and prospective nuclear arms control agreements. SSD also engages with allies and partners to provide them with confidence and reassurance in U.S. deterrence commitments, while promoting stable relations with Russia and China.
