COVID-19 Information and Resources

The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) is one of the 27 Institutes and Centers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIMHD leads scientific research to improve minority health and reduce health disparities. The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a disproportionate burden of illness and death among racial and ethnic minorities and other vulnerable populations. Underlying causes of this burden may relate to long-standing disparities and disadvantages, higher rates of comorbid conditions, higher proportions of public-facing jobs, and crowding in housing and communities. Consequently, there is an imperative need to identify and implement strategies across the prevention and intervention spectrums that are aligned with the needs of these communities.

NIMHD is collaborating with NIH Institutes and Centers along with its stakeholders to address the effects of the pandemic as well as the underlying inequities.
