The Bureau of Land Management today released a final rule updating antiquated regulations governing the administration of timber sales and forest management decisions. These revisions more effectively execute the bureau’s modern watershed and landscape-level land management planning process, which will enable the BLM to make better decisions more quickly for the benefit of taxpayers and local communities.

The Bureau of Land Management Central Coast Field Office is easing seasonal fire restrictions on Friday, Dec. 18, on approximately 300,000-acres of public land thanks to a reduction in the potential for wildland fire.

Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will be conducting a prescribed fire in the Lacks Creek Management Area near the community of Hoopa in Humboldt County from Tuesday, Dec. 15, through Thursday, Dec. 24. Smoke will be visible from residences along Bair and Stover roads, and there may be light residual smoke for one to two days after the piles are burned.

In keeping with the Trump Administration’s goals of promoting responsible energy development, today the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) completed its oil and gas lease sale in California. For this sale, the BLM offered seven parcels totaling approximately 4,133 acres of Federal minerals. All parcels are in or adjacent to existing Midway-Sunset, and Kern Front Oilfields in Kern County. The highest per-acre price was $27, sold to Standard Oil Company, LLC.

The Bureau of Land Management is working to maintain services to the American people and our stakeholders, consistent with evolving guidance provided by the Center for Disease Control and state and local health authorities. The health and safety of our visitors and staff remains the number one priority of the BLM. In accordance with the State of California’s recent regional stay at home order, the BLM will continue to monitor and evaluate the need to close some developed campgrounds in coordination with local, state and federal agency partners, to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

The Bureau of Land Management Bakersfield Field Office is lifting fire restrictions on Dec. 7 for approximately 640,000 acres of BLM-managed public lands in Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, San Luis Obispo and Tulare counties, due to reduced wildland fire conditions. Fire restrictions will also be lifted from BLM-managed recreational areas, including the Carrizo Plain National Monument, Chimney Peak, Kennedy Meadows, Keysville, Lake Isabella, San Joaquin River Gorge and Three Rivers.

The Bureau of Land Management has temporarily closed the Litchfield Wild Horse and Burro Corrals to the public and suspended adoption appointments in response to Lassen County Public Health guidance related to the prevention of COVID-19 spread.
