Annual Voluntary Credit Union Diversity Self-Assessment

5 Facts about the Credit Union Diversity Self-Assessment. It's a tool for building diversity and inclusion. It's voluntary. It's simple and brief. It has no effect on CAMEL ratings. It's available year-round.

Thank you for your interest in the Credit Union Diversity Self-Assessment. The assessment is designed to help credit unions assess existing diversity and inclusion policies and practices, and identify opportunities to implement best practices in diversity and inclusion.

Development of effective diversity and inclusion policies and practices takes time. Each year, credit unions will have an opportunity to conduct this self-assessment, and to provide the results to the NCUA. The NCUA uses the self-assessment data to monitor progress and trends in credit union diversity-related activities. Our Office of Minority and Women Inclusion aggregates the data and only shares the results anonymously, primarily in the NCUA’s annual OMWI Congressional Report and in a separate annual report detailing the self-assessment results.

The self-assessment data also informs the NCUA of ways in which we can support diversity and inclusion in the credit union system and of areas where additional guidance would be useful. When appropriate, we issue such guidance to assist credit unions with their diversity efforts. For example, in 2018, we issued a Credit Union Guide to Supplier Diversity after identifying that many credit unions reported low levels of engagement in this area.
