Work at Arctic Refuge

Jobs may open periodically at the Refuge. Keep an eye on USAJobs.gov. All permanent and seasonal federal jobs are posted there. In the entrance screen, indicate that you want to see jobs for Alaska. Visit the site every two weeks or so to see what's new. We usually post our summer field work positions in mid or late winter, so look especially for those at that time. You can create an account and select certain search characteristics to alert you when preferred job types are announced.

Volunteer at Arctic Refuge

The Refuge is vast but our volunteer program is modest. With a small staff, and remote lands hundreds of miles away from our administrative offices, we do not have numerous volunteer opportunities. That said, depending on your interests, aptitudes, and availability, there are occasions where a fruitful match between volunteer and Refuge needs can be found. If you are interested in investigating volunteer options, send an email to arctic_refuge@fws.gov describing whether you can provide your own transportation to Fairbanks, what dates you might be available, where your areas of specialty and interest lie, and why you've identified Arctic Refuge as a place that might benefit from your volunteer service.

Information about volunteering at other locations within the US Fish and Wildlife Service is available at http://www.volunteer.gov/, and in Alaska at http://www.fws.gov/alaska/volunteer/needs.htm.

SCA (Student Conservation Association) at Arctic Refuge

SCA places individuals 18 or older in expense-paid conservation internships. We sometimes have positions for SCA interns. Find out about all available SCA internships at https://www.thesca.org/serve/conservation-corps/openings.
