Argonne National Laboratory

Work with Argonne

Technology Development and Commercialization

A primary objective of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories is to promote the economic interests of the United States by facilitating development, transfer, and use of federally owned or originated technology to industry for public benefit and to provide industry, state and local governments, and other federal agencies access to DOE resources to help them solve challenges and seize opportunities. Argonne's Technology Development and Commercialization division works proactively with Argonne research divisions and selected industry partners to develop commercialization strategies, seek partners with new applications and introduce advancements into commercial use through licenses and start-ups.

Collaborative Centers

Nano Design Works (NDW) and the Argonne Collaborative Center for Energy Storage Science (ACCESS) provide central points of contact for companies — ranging from large industrial entities to smaller businesses and startups, as well as government agencies — to benefit from Argonne's world-class expertise, scientific tools, and facilities in the nano and energy storage fields. The centers provide a pathway to Argonne's fundamental research that is poised for development into practical products.

Procurement

Argonne spends approximately $300,000,000 annually through procurements from a diverse group of large and small business concerns for a broad range of products and services that support the laboratory's overall mission.

Argonne Small Business Program

It is the policy of the Argonne National Laboratory that socioeconomic business concerns will be provided the maximum practicable opportunity to participate in the performance of subcontracts awarded by Argonne consistent with DOE's Small Business policies. Argonne will procure a fair proportion of its goods and services from small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, women-owned small businesses, veterans and service-disabled veterans who own and operate small businesses and HUBZone businesses.
