Environmental
At Fannie Mae, we are committed to improving environmental sustainability in the homes we finance, the communities we serve, and the places we work.
Multifamily Green Financing
Fannie Mae pioneered green mortgage financing to reward multifamily borrowers who invest in energy- and water-efficient property improvements with lower interest rates and other incentives. By combining the right products, processes, and people, we were the first to introduce this simple approach to sustainability within our industry.
Single-Family Green Financing
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, we issued our first Single-Family Green Mortgage-Backed Security, backed by newly constructed single-family residential homes with ENERGY STAR® certifications.
Multifamily Green Bond Impact Report
Our multifamily green bond issuances support the retrofitting of the U.S. rental housing stock to become more energy- and water-efficient, helping to create healthier and more affordable rental homes for families and individuals.
Multifamily Green Building Certifications
Fannie Mae offers preferential pricing on loans secured by a multifamily property with a Fannie Mae-recognized green building certification, which have minimum energy and/or water reduction requirements.
Multifamily Green Rewards Program
We set out to help create greener, healthier rental homes. Our Green Rewards program provides benefits for innovative, smart, green property improvements that include lower interest rates, additional loan funding, and a free energy and water audit report.
Multifamily Healthy Housing Rewards
Fannie Mae’s Healthy Housing Rewards™ initiative provides financial incentives for borrowers who incorporate health-promoting design features or resident services in their newly constructed or rehabilitated multifamily affordable rental properties.
Single-Family HomeStyle Energy
The single-family HomeStyle® Energy mortgage allows borrowers to make energy- or water-efficiency upgrades to their home, improve a home’s resiliency to natural disasters, or pay off existing energy-related debt.
2020 EPA ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year
Fannie Mae was awarded the 2020 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award from the EPA for its outstanding contributions to increasing energy-efficiency improvements in multifamily housing.
Together with our partners, Fannie Mae is part of the global movement to use the power of green and sustainability principles to create better quality, more affordable, and more resilient housing.
