Partnerships

To enhance NOAA’s Web presence, NCEI collaborated with NOAA partners and contributing agencies to develop climate.gov. Climate.gov showcases a wide breadth of climate data and information and features key climate topic discussions and videos, data access tools, and information for educators.

NOAA's National Weather Service

  • National Weather Service (NWS)
The NWS provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters, and ocean areas for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. You can find your local forecast along with recent weather on the NWS website.
  • Climate Prediction Center (CPC)
The CPC produces operational predictions of climate variability, real-time monitoring of climate, and assessments of the origins of major climate anomalies. The products cover time scales from a week to seasons and cover the land, ocean, and atmosphere. You can find the current conditions of the El Niño Southern Oscillation and its forecast on the CPC website.
  • Storm Prediction Center (SPC)
The SPC provides forecasts and watches for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes over the contiguous United States. The SPC also monitors heavy rain, heavy snow, and fire weather events across the United States and issues specific products for those hazards. You can find current watches and warnings as well as storm reports on the SPC website.

Regional and State Climate Services

In addition to NCEI's Regional Climate Services Directors, NCEI collaborates with a three-tier national climate services program through the Regional Climate Centers and the American Association of State Climatologists.

  • Regional Climate Centers (RCCs)
The Regional Climate Centers are a federal-state cooperative effort. The six Centers engage in the production and delivery of climate data and information for decision makers and others at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
  • American Association of State Climatologists (AASC)
The American Association of State Climatologists is a professional scientific organization that provides climate services for the Nation through integration of data quality control, communication among the sector, and coordinated referral of customer inquiries.

Academic Partners

NCEI also collaborates with academic, non-profit, and community organizations such as the Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites–North Carolina, which is collocated at NCEI’s headquarters in Asheville, North Carolina.
