Data Resources

The main categories of data available on SBIR.GOV are Solicitations & Topics, Awards, and Companies that have won awards.  Data can be obtained through:

•    Downloadable files in several different formats (XLS, JSON, or XML)
•    An API (Application Programming Interface)

A Data Dictionary file contains information on available fields across all of the categories.  Online data dictionaries are also available.

Solicitations & Topics

Solicitations cover the high-level information on the time-frame and a general description of a funding opportunity.  Topics refer to very specific technology areas. 

•    The fields publicly available can be found on the Solicitation Data Dictionary or in the Data Dictionary file.

•    The Topics page has a list of all Open, Future, or Closed topics.  Each can be downloaded in either XLS, JSON, or XML format. Please note the Solicitation page does not currently have an option to download data. 

•    The Solicitation and Topic API can be used to see Open, Future, or Closed solicitations. This API also allows for Topics to be pulled.

•    Also, on the Topic page only 1,000 records may be downloaded at a time.

Awards

Every SBIR/STTR award since the program’s inception is available for download. 

•    Data can be downloaded on the Awards Data page, or obtain via the Award API.
•    The fields publicly available can be viewed on the  Awards Data Dictionary page or via the Data Dictionary file.
•    Please note that more Award fields are available via the downloaded than the API.
•    On the Award Data page only 1,000 records may be downloaded at a time.

Companies

Data on every Company that has won an award is available on SBIR.GOV. 

•    A list of companies can be downloaded from the Portfolio page or via the Firm API.
•    A list fields is available on the Firm Data Dictionary or within the Data Dictionary file. 
•    Please note the fields available for download differ slightly from the API. 
•    Also, on the Portfolio page only 5,000 records may be downloaded at a time.

Local Assistance

Data on all local resources partners and organizations is categorized by types and is available on SBIR.GOV.

•    A list of local resources  can be downloaded from the Local Assistance Page or via the Local Assistance API.
•    A list fields is available on the Local Assistance Data Dictionary or within the Data Dictionary file. 
•    Please note the fields available for download differ slightly from the API.
