The National Research Service Awards (NRSA) enable scientists to be trained to conduct independent nursing research and to collaborate in interdisciplinary research through individual and institutional predoctoral, postdoctoral, and senior fellowships. NINR currently supports F31, F32, and T32 mechanisms of funding for fellowship grants.
- Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grants (Parent T32) enable schools of nursing with research programs to provide full-time predoctoral and postdoctoral research training. The institution selects the trainees to be appointed. NINR has one receipt date per year on May 25.
- Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Individual Predoctoral Fellowships (Parent F31) are available to support registered nurses for supervised research training leading to a doctoral degree in areas related to the mission of the NINR. NINR also sponsors Individual Predoctoral Fellowships to promote diversity.
- Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Individual Postdoctoral Fellowships (Parent F32) provide postdoctoral research training registered nurses to broaden their scientific background and extend their potential for research in specified health-related areas related to the mission of NINR.
Career Development Awards (K awards) are fully described at the linked NIH site (the NIH K Kiosk). NINR supports only the K01, K23, K24 and K99 Career Development Awards at this time.
Mentored Research Scientist Development Awards (Parent K01 - Independent Clinical Trial Required) are available to doctorally-prepared scientists who need a mentored research experience with an expert sponsor as a way to gain expertise in an area that is new to the candidate or would demonstrably enhance the candidate's scientific career.

LRP Research Priorities
NINR supports clinical and pediatric LRP applications from health professionals with doctoral degrees. NINR will give highest priority to applications from nurse scientists.
