Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Providers/Manufactures

Electronic Logging Device providers/manufacturers must self-certify and register their ELD with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The self-certification and registration process is as follows:

  • Request a user account
  • Register an ELD
  • Provide required information
  • Self-certify that the ELD meets the technical specifications of the ELD rule and is compliant.

Motor Carriers and Drivers

Starting February 16, 2016 until December 18, 2017 motor carriers and drivers may voluntarily use ELDs. Prior to purchasing an ELD, motor carriers and drivers should confirm with the ELD provider/manufacturer that the device is certified and registered with FMCSA.

Devices that are not certified and registered with FMCSA must meet the definition of an Automatic On-board Recording Device or the requirements in ยง395.8 in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
