OPM Launches the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Class of 2021 Application

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has opened applications for the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program Class of 2021. The program, now in its 43rd year, has provided a pathway to the Federal service for more than 10,000 individuals.

Applications for the program will run until Wednesday, October 14 at Noon (Eastern). To learn more about the application process, visit the “Become a PMF” section of the PMF website.

Background:

The Presidential Management Fellows Program is a leadership development program for advanced degree candidates that offers a pathway into the Federal Government. The Program attracts and selects the best candidates to develop a cadre of future government leaders. The PMF Program inculcates a lasting bond as well as a spirit of public service, ultimately encouraging and leading to a career in the government.

Fast Facts:

  • OPM originally established the PMF program as the Presidential Management Intern (PMI) program, in accordance with a Carter Administration Executive Order, in 1977.
    • PMF brought in its first class of Fellows (then called “Interns”) in 1978.
  • The PMF Program is a leadership development program for advanced degree candidates, offering a pathway into the Federal Government.
  • Over 4,900 people applied to join the Class of 2020
  • From that group, 402 Finalists were selected, representing 125 academic institutions, and 61 unique academic disciplines.
    • A total of 13% of the Finalists were veterans.
    • There are currently Presidential Management Fellows working in over 25 states across the nation.
