NIH OTT Open Data Initiative

The NIH Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) has embarked on an ambitious project to make sure that as much of the technology transfer-related data generated at NIH and CDC is made available to the general public. We have done this though four specifc paths (in order of effficiency):

  1. Providing an API for third party websites and developers to connect, and access any and all records. More details on the specifics of the API can be found here

  2. Providing the entire dataset in one XML file here

  3. Providing an easy to use web interface that is not only searchable, but also provides for permalinks for filtered data stream. For example, the following URL will always provide a listing of the latest technologies available for licensing that mentions the words "mouse" and "model"-- http://www.ott.nih.gov/opportunities?body_value=mouse+model

  4. Providing an RSS Feed. For example, this link will provide an RSS Feed of all available technologies for licensing-- http://www.ott.nih.gov/feed
