Meet the Assistant Attorney General

Stephen E. Boyd is the Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs. In that capacity, he heads the Department's Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA), which is responsible for managing the Department's relationship with Congress. OLA represents the Department’s interests on Capitol Hill, develops and implements strategies to advance the Department's legislative initiatives, and articulates the Department's position on legislation proposed by Congress. Additionally, OLA facilitates the appearance of Department witnesses at congressional hearings, manages the interagency clearance process led by Office of Management and Budget, coordinates the Department's responses to congressional committee oversight requests, and participates in the Senate confirmation process for the Department’s executive nominees. Mr. Boyd earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alabama and a law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. Following law school, Mr. Boyd worked for U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions, serving in a number of policy and communications roles. Mr. Boyd also served as the Communications Director of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Mr. Boyd later served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Martha Roby of Alabama’s Second Congressional District. Most recently, Mr. Boyd served as the Chief of Staff of the Office of Legal Policy at the Department of Justice.
