$13 - could teach someone how to use public transportation on their own for the first time.

$25 - could help a person with a disability learn to cook a meal on their own for the first time.

$42 - would provide a bus pass for an individual with a disability to get to their new job the first month.

$75 - could enable a group of people with a disabilities on limited income access to recreational social events like a baseball game.

$110 - would allow us to provide one hour of communication access with an American Sign Language Interpreter for a Deaf or Hard of Hearing person.

$500 - could enable a group of individuals with a disabilities on limited income access to the arts, such as a play or live performance.

$2,500 - would enable us to build a life-saving ramp for someone's home so they can go to church, the supermarket or work; even escape in an emergency or fire.

$15,000 - could pay for an entire year of in-home Personal Care Service, which enables individuals to stay in their homes and communities.

Welcome

The Center for Accessible Living is Kentucky’s first Independent Living Center. With offices located in Louisville and Murray, its services span the entire state of Kentucky. The Center for Accessible Living (CAL) is a private, non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization.

CAL is a disability rights and resource center for people with disabilities, governed by people with disabilities. Services are offered to individuals with all types of disabilities. Our experienced staff provides information, advocacy and services that create opportunities for people with disabilities to live as independently as possible.

Independent Living

“Independent Living does not mean that we want to do everything by ourselves, do not need anybody or like to live in isolation. Independent Living means that we demand the same choices and control in our every-day lives that our non-disabled brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends take for granted. We want to grow up in our families, go to the neighborhood school, use the same bus as our neighbors; work in jobs that are in line with our education and interests, and raise families of our own. We are profoundly ordinary people sharing the same need to feel included, recognized and loved.”
