PHMSA Data and Statistics

PHMSA's goal is to improve industry performance and communications to prevent hazardous material transportation incidents, accidents, injuries, and fatalities. PHMSA utilizes data to track the frequency of failures, incidents and accidents.  PHMSA also analyzes the causes and the resulting consequences and reports this data in various categories such as year, state, type, cause, and result. PHMSA’s data tools and analyses are instrumental in sustaining its mission to protect people and the environment by advancing the safe transportation of energy and other hazardous materials that are essential to our daily lives.
