The PSM in Nanoscience

is a fast track graduate degree that equips Scientists, Engineers and Biomedical workers/ students for flexible careers in fascinating interdisciplinary fields

Welcome to PSM in Nanoscience at ASU

The Professional Science Master's (PSM) in Nanoscience is an innovative program at ASU, which leads to a highly useful graduate degree in a relatively short time. This type of program has been described as "Education for a Competitive World", a "Fast track to a new Career", and a "Science-MBA for the 21st Century". For visitors to our site who would like to get a feel for why ASU is a special place to study this innovative degree program, visit the Why Nanoscience tab.

Commercial innovation is particularly emphasized, including applications in Semiconductor Electronics and Optoelectronics, Energy and Nanomaterials, Sensors, Nanomedicine and Healthcare. Three flexibly designed Program Options are outlined under the Degree Program tab. These descriptions can serve both as a (flexible) guide to aid career development, and also as a (detailed) guide to specific courses available for our current students.

In more detail, what is offered consists of interdisciplinary courses that provide a knowledge base required for full appreciation of research and innovation in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Students may choose courses in physics, chemistry and biochemistry, materials science, engineering, biotechnology and intellectual property and innovation.

But the program is much more than a long list of courses. Throughout the program, students engage with faculty, workplace advisors and peers in a variety of disciplines related to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Visiting speakers and industry leaders interact with and enhance the program through their involvement in the Professional & Business Development Seminar (NAN 591), or Professional Seminar as a shorter name. This interactive class plays a key role in fostering team environment, learning and practicing presentation and leadership skills, and developing professionalism.

The PSM in Nanoscience program may be completed on either a full-time 12-month track or a part-time 24-month track. This intensive learning experience requires an Applied Project instead of a traditional thesis and takes place in an immersive, professional atmosphere: on this site, we feature these Applied Projects for our senior students and our Alumni, along with their Advisors. Over the last few years, we have launched four new 4+1 (Accelerated Degree) programs, geared towards ASU students in Physics, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemistry and Biochemistry.
