She is currently the NCI project director for the National Institutes of Health Centers for Population Health and Health Disparities and coordinates trans-NIH (National Institutes of Health) activities (with seven NIH institutes and offices) to promote intervention programs in Native American communities and subpopulations. For several years she worked at building partnerships between communities and universities to address various health challenges in underserved and immigrant communities. Previously she has taught and conducted research at various universities, and also has worked as a research director in a community-based health advocacy organization. Her research focuses for the most part on social determinants of health, place, and inequities, including challenges in the utilization and access to health services. In all these projects the goal is largely to inform health policy at the local, state, and national levels regarding health and health care for underserved and underrepresented populations.
