Outreach Products

The EOSDIS Communications team provides a suite of outreach products ranging from printed materials to data animation multimedia products for a variety of audiences. Outreach products provide the end user with valuable information regarding how to find, access and use NASA EOSDIS data holdings.

Printed Materials

Earth System Science Data Resources

The Earth System Science Data Resources publication provides an overview of NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs), describes common data formats and processing levels, provides overviews of NASA’s Earth system science passive and active sensors, and organizes information about relevant data sets by Earth science discipline. Data discovery, data access, data manipulation (e.g. conversion, subsetting, visualization) tools are organized by functionality/feature. This publication provides information about how to find, access and use the wide variety of NASA EOSDIS and other Earth science data holdings

Discipline Data Set Reference Sheets

Suite of six Earth science discipline data set reference sheets organized by parameter/measurement (e.g. sea surface temperature), available data sets and the corresponding DAACs. The sheets are:

Atmosphere one pager Calibrated Radiance one pager Cryosphere one pager
Atmosphere Calibrated Radiance
and Solar Radiance
Cryosphere
Human Dimension one pager Land one pager Ocean one pager
Human Dimensions Land Ocean
Each of these discipline data set "cheat sheets" provides DAAC contact information along with a listing of many data sets frequently used to measure the listed parameters.

Data Set/Tool Fact Sheets

This suite of fact sheets are concise one-page documents that feature either a data product, data tool or data service from our EOSDIS DAACs. These fact sheets provide the following information: Overview of the product, tool, or service, features/functionality of the tool, project or data set highlights and provides information on how to access the product, tool or service.

Data Animations and Visualizations

The animations entitled, "Earth's Water Cycle" and "The Ocean-a Driving Force for Weather and Climate" represent a joint endeavor between NASA JPL's Solar System Visualization Project and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), and are sponsored by the ESDIS Project at GSFC. Both animations are unique in that they showcase NASA's contributions in studying Earth as a set of interrelated systems by visualizing a variety of NASA EOSDIS data sets across multiple data centers, platforms and from multiple NASA sensors.

Earth's Water Cycle DVD cover

Earth's Water Cycle features data that show the transport of Earth's water in the atmosphere, over land and back to the ocean. Fresh water availability, water storage and water cycle variability are all hydrology related topics that are showcased within this animation. The data show the impact of extreme water cycle variability both on Earth's interrelated systems and humans worldwide. The animation is 6:00 minutes.

Ocean DVD cover

The Ocean - a driving force for weather and climate uses Earth science data from a variety of sensors on NASA Earth observing satellites to measure physical oceanography parameters such as ocean currents, ocean winds, sea surface height and sea surface temperature. These measurements, in combination with atmospheric measurements such as surface air temperature, precipitation and clouds are used to help communicate visually the ocean’s impact on weather and climate and what this means for life here on Earth. The animation is 6:00 minutes.
