Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder in which individuals may seem to have lost touch with reality. Those diagnosed with schizophrenia may experience hallucinations, delusions, thought disorders, or agitated body movements. While not as common as other mental disorders, the symptoms can be very disabling. VA research into schizophrenia focuses on various aspects of the condition, including understanding factors that may predispose an individual to the condition; determining if combat deployments play a role in triggering the condition; increasing access to services; and improving health outcomes for Veterans with schizophrenia.
