Coastal Alabama employs 242,000 people annually, earning a total of almost $10.5 billion. This equates to approximately $25.8 billion in gross domestic product.
Natural Hazards
Four billion-dollar weather disasters affected Alabama in 2018—and a total of 27 affected the state between 2010 and 2018. In 2018, three separate storm systems caused dozens of tornadoes; one in March of that year caused over 20 tornadoes and extensive damage across Alabama.*
