Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery Resources

As communities and homelessness services systems continue to respond to the challenges of managing planning and follow-up activities associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, many are beginning to implement actions to prepare for disaster and recovery efforts during this year’s hurricane season. We’ve compiled the following list of resources that can help with preparation and planning.  

  • COVID-19 Pandemic Operational Guidance for the 2020 Hurricane Season (FEMA) provides guidance to help emergency managers and public health officials best prepare for disasters, while continuing to respond to and recover from COVID-19While the guide focuses on FEMA’s program delivery during the 2020 hurricane season, most planning considerations can be applied to any disaster operation during the COVID-19 pandemic(NEW) 
  • FEMA is also hosting a series of webinars to discuss how the guidance can assist with disaster planning given the constraints and limitations of the ongoing pandemic. (NEW)
  • 2020 Hurricane Season During COVID-19 Webinar Recording (CDC) discusses possible health risks that could come from hurricanes combined with COVID-19; planning for the 2020 hurricane season while adhering to guidance on social distancing; and how providers can effectively communicate messages to affected residents. (NEW) 
  • National Mass Care Strategy(FEMA and American Red Cross) provides resources related to immediate emergency response, including, sheltering, feeding, distributing emergency supplies, reunifying families, providing immediate access to health, and emotional and spiritual health services, and accessing information. Updated resources include general guidelines for making congregate and non-congregate sheltering decisions in a COVID-19 environment(REVISED)
