The IDOC Fiscal Year 2011 Annual Report provides a comprehensive review of the department that includes its budget, operations, programs and parole. Accomplishments featured in the report include the Fiscal Year 2011 recidivism rate in Illinois of 47.0 percent, which is a 6-year low for the agency, and the Summit of Hope Program, which is a community expo that brings local service providers together to provide a "one-stop" environment for invited parolees and probationers to obtain the necessary assistance to move past barriers that may prevent them from leading a successful life.

The Illinois Department of Corrections is excited about an effort that began as a vocational opportunity for offenders and has become another avenue for facilities to “go green” and give back to their local communities.

There are currently 23 prisons and several work camps that have incorporated gardens into the prison grounds. Some are primarily used for teaching offenders horticulture skills while others have become large enough to feed inmates, staff, and needy families in local communities.
  • Mom and Me Camp

Decatur, Illinois – August 7, 2012 – The Illinois Department of Corrections is hosting the “Mom and Me Camp” at two facilities in Central Illinois next week. This program runs August 5th- 8th at the Lincoln Correctional Center and the Decatur Correctional Center.

Mom and Me Camp is a unique program that brings children ages seven through twelve together with their incarcerated mothers for three days of activities at the correctional centers. The children arrive at East Bay Camp near Bloomington on Sunday, and then travel to the correctional centers by bus where they spend the day with their mom and participate in planned activities. Moms and children get to play games, make crafts, and spend much needed quiet time together.
