Dr. Ioan Voicu

Ioan Voicu

Dr. Ioan Voicu is the Director of the Compliance Risk Analysis Division within Economics at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

In this role, Dr. Voicu manages and coordinates the activities of his division to support bank supervision, policy and staff development, and to ensure that the division’s goals and objectives are met. Additionally, he conducts and leads examinations of banks’ compliance with fair lending and anti-money laundering laws and regulations, and policy analyses.

Dr. Voicu has participated in the division's development of methods to support fair lending, Community Reinvestment Act, and anti-money laundering examinations. He also conducts independent research on a variety of topics in mortgage lending and urban economics and policy, such as the role of neighborhood characteristics in determining house prices, determinants of mortgage loan performance, effectiveness of policies to improve mortgage affordability and performance, and determinants of firm location.

Before joining the OCC in 2007, he was a research fellow at the Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy at New York University. Prior to that, Dr. Voicu was a researcher and adjunct assistant professor at the Center for Urban Policy Research at Rutgers University. He earned his Ph.D. in economics at Rutgers University.
