More Laboratory News »The Mesoscale Atmospheric Processes Laboratory investigates the physics and dynamics of atmospheric processes using remote-sensing data and high-resolution numerical simulations. Key areas of research are cloud and precipitation systems and their impact on regional and global climate. State-of-the-art cloud-resolving models are developed and applied at local to regional to global scales.
The Laboratory plays a key science leadership role in the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission, launched in 2014. Another central focus is developing remote-sensing technology and methods to measure aerosols, clouds, precipitation, water vapor, and winds, especially using active remote sensing (lidar and radar).
