VA National Quality Scholars

Two New Sites Selected

In December 2011, the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) issued a request for proposals to expand the number of VA Quality Scholars Advanced Fellowship sites.  This RFP solicited proposals from VA facilities interested in hosting an ongoing program for the VA Quality Scholars Advanced Fellowship, which is designed to provide intensive training to develop health care leaders in focused areas related to quality improvement, scholarship, education, and clinical care within VHA. New sites were invited to compete. The Quality Scholars Fellowship is a two year interdisciplinary program for physicians and nurses and coordinated by a fellowship hubsite at the Dartmouth Institute.

Eleven VHA field facilities enthusiastically embraced this opportunity and competed to host this prestigious program. The peer review process has been completed, resulting in the selection of new programs at two VA Medical Centers: Greater Los Angeles and Atlanta.

These two newly selected sites will join the six existing programs at Birmingham, Cleveland, Iowa City, Nashville, San Francisco, and White River Junction to compose the full VA Quality Scholars Program site portfolio. The Office of Academic Affiliations will make available trainee stipends for two physician trainees and one nurse trainee each academic year at each of the eight sites.
