Assembly of Delegates
You spoke—we listened! Because traveling to the Sigma Xi Annual Meeting can be costly, both with your time and your money, we will conduct the 2012 and 2013 Assembly of Delegates meetings online. This year's Assembly of Delegates will be a virtual meeting and will be held on November 3, 2012 starting at 12:00 pm Eastern Time. Dr. Glenn Edwin Schweitzer, Director for Central Europe and Eurasia National Research Council, will be giving a presentation entitled "Bilateral Science Diplomacy: Then and Now." Additionally, there will be two Town Hall type sessions for the members to share their thoughts with their National Officers and fellow members.

Honor Caucus: Why Accept Our Invitation?
Sigma Xi, is pleased to join a group of the country’s oldest and most prestigious collegiate honor societies, in a new initiative—to better inform the administrations of academic institutions nationwide of the incredible honor and value that an invitation to lifelong membership can hold for the individual student.

 
Grants-in-Aid of Research Deadline: October 15
Grants of up to $1,000 are available to undergraduate and graduate students in all areas of science and engineering. Special funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision related research.
 
North Central Region Caucus – October 13-14, 2012
Please join us on the Ohio State University campus for the first Sigma Xi North Central Region Caucus held in the NC Region. The meeting will include workshops and science presentations. We will re-examine the purpose of Sigma Xi with a goal to identify and develop the best ideas & programs for providing value to our members at the chapter level.

Beginning with the July-August 2012 issue of American Scientist, Sigma Xi members will receive the digital edition of the magazine as part of their membership benefits. Members (dues-paid) may continue to receive print issues at a reduced one-year subscription price.
 
Earn a Free Year of Membership
Sigma Xi's new Member-Get-A-Member program gives all active Sigma Xi members a chance to earn a free year of membership by recommending five new members during a one-year period. Potential new members must list their Sigma Xi "Recommender" on the "Recommended by" line at the bottom of their nomination forms.
 
American Scientist Essays on Scientific Publication
In the newest booklet in Sigma Xi's series on ethics, For the Record, six experts examine issues—and solutions—in peer review and authorship. The essays in this volume originally appeared in American Scientist, and provide insight and advice for anyone who uses the scientific literature.
 
Changes in Membership Dues and American Scientist
Elected member representatives on the Board of Directors agreed after careful deliberation that two policy changes needed to occur in this upcoming fiscal year. The changes focus on ensuring the future fiscal soundness of our Society, reducing the environmental impact of our operations, and facilitating greater capability to deliver value to the membership.
 
2011 John McGovern Lecture: "Looking at Earth"
Former astronaut Kathryn D. Sullivan held the audience spellbound at the Sigma Xi Annual Meeting as she took them on a unique tour of the Earth, from early maps, to satellite images and spectacular photos from the moon. She received the 2011 McGovern Award.
