Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders (AD) occur when normally temporary stress or anxiousness do not go away, but instead, may get worse over time. Symptoms of AD can include feeling very wound-up or on edge, having difficulty concentrating, controlling feelings of worry, and insomnia—all of which can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, schoolwork, and relationships. There are several types of AD, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and various phobia-related disorders. VA research into AD looks at various aspects of the condition, including: how AD related behaviors (such as tobacco or alcohol use) impact Veterans, how best to deliver care to Veterans who may not have ready access to a VA clinic, and how pre-existing AD may make Veterans more susceptible to PTSD.
