Have you wondered what
life is really like living in an institution? How does it feel
to move to the community?
These answers are available through the IHDD Speakers Bureau where three individuals who have disabilities and / or have lived in institutions and transitioned to the community tell their personal stories and answer your questions.
They know about being institutionalized, being
housed in workshops and segregated programs, and being away from
their families. They know about empowerment, and the impact that
respectful, person-centered supports have on lives, and talk about
the transition to living in the community.
Gail Bottoms, Toney Al Duvall,
and Marian Jackson are professional speakers
who talk about the issues relevant to their lives and to the IHDD
mission.

IN GA WORKSHOPS:
Rehabilitating Farmers and Ranchers
with Disabilities
(Photos above: left-AgrAbility helping farmer with disabilties, right-AgrAbility workshop.)
Georgia
is a major agricultural state with Agribusiness being its
largest industry to date. Out of the approximately 85,000
Georgians employed in agriculture, 19% of these workers are
estimated to have some type of disability. Occupational, physical,
and recreational therapists along with other healthcare professionals,
play an important role in preparing farmers and ranchers to
return to work. This hands-on workshop will demonstrate ways
to better serve the agricultural population.
For information on future workshops, visit the AgrAbility website, www.farmagain.com.
