Bond Release Success in Colorado
Colorado Claims National Reclamation Award for Peanut Mine
Achieving a beneficial post mining land use is the ultimate goal for all coal mining operations permitted under the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act. Last year three Colorado coal mines completed final Phase III bond release. Returning mined land to wildlife habitat and rangeland, these three mines successfully achieved final bond release and the permits were terminated by the Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety. Since program inception in 1981, the Division has terminated jurisdiction on thirty two sites for a total of 68,594 acres.
