Social Security cannot answer questions about economic impact payments under the recently enacted law, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act. The Internal Revenue Service, not Social Security, will be making direct payments to eligible people. For more information, visit www.irs.gov/coronavirus.

If you cannot use our online services, although our offices are closed to the public for face-to-face service, employees are assisting people by telephone. You can find the phone number for your local office by using our Field Office Locator and looking under Additional Office Information.

If you cannot use our online services or reach your local office, you may call our National 800 Number toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 where you may be able to take care of your business by using one of our automated telephone services (please see below) 24 hours a day without having to wait for a telephone agent. If you need to speak with an agent, be aware that wait times may be longer than usual, which is why we encourage you to try our online services or call your local office first.

If you cannot handle your business through our automated services, you can speak to a Social Security representative by calling toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm., Monday through Friday.
