OVC-Funded Apps
DocuSAFE: Documentation and Evidence Collection App
DocuSAFE is a free app that helps survivors collect, store, and share evidence of abuse, such as domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, online harassment, and dating violence. If survivors choose, the app provides options for sharing the content with law enforcement, attorneys, victim advocates, and other professionals.
The Safety Net Team at the National Network to End Domestic Violence, in partnership with 3Advance, created this app with funding from OVC (Grant No. 2017-VF-GX-K030).
Elder Law Risk Detector
The Elder Law Risk Detector is designed to screen, identify, and refer seniors facing elder abuse, financial exploitation, and other issues to legal services.
Upon completion of a report in the app, users have the option to submit their report to legal or elder service programs in six areas of the country, including Alaska, Maine, Montana, New York City, Western New York, and Northern California. The app was developed by Pro Bono Net and Georgetown Law. (Grant No. 2017-VF-GX-K135 awarded under the OVC FY 2017 Field-Generated Innovations in Addressing Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation solicitation).
Identity Theft Resource Center App
The OVC-funded Identity Theft Resource Center mobile app is meant to help victims and potential victims of identity theft, provide consumers with information on how to protect themselves, and educate the public about identity-theft-related issues (Grant No. 2014-XV-BX-K003 awarded under the OVC FY 2014 Vision 21: Using Technology To Expand National and International Access to Victim Services solicitation).
Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network App
The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network app is an Office for Victims of Crime-funded mobile app that provides resources for victims of sexual assault. The app connects survivors with safe and secure group support online. Users can contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline by phone or chat through the app, connect with other survivors through a peer-to-peer helproom, and locate services in their area.
The mobile app also allows survivors and their loved ones to find educational resources and tools to help them practice self-care (Grant No. 2018-V3-GX-K020).
SafeNight App
The SafeNight app provides support to victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault seeking urgent shelter. This app was produced, with funding from the OVC (Grant No. 2017-VF-GX-K025) by the Safe Shelter Collaborative—agencies, funders, supporters, technologists, and community-minded experts who develop solutions that find shelter faster for survivors.
Tech Safety App
The Tech Safety App is an OVC-funded mobile app that offers resources for victims of technology-facilitated stalking or abuse (Grant No. 2014-VF-GX-K017 awarded under the OVC FY 2015 Vision 21: Victim Services Mobile Application Invitational Letter solicitation).
Created by the National Network to End Domestic Violence, this educational app walks users through how a particular technology could be misused, what they can do about it, and offers users safety tips on how to increase their safety and privacy.
Federal Apps
KnowBullying App
The KnowBullying mobile app, developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), has simple conversation starters to begin discussions with children about bullying; strategies to prevent bullying for ages 3–6, 7–13, and teens; and warning signs of bullying, being bullied, or witnessing bullying.
The app includes a section for educators to help prevent bullying in the classroom and support children who are being bullied.
Operation Predator App
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Operation Predator App enables users to receive alerts about wanted predators, to share the information with friends via email and social media tools, and to provide information to Homeland Security Investigations by calling or submitting an online tip.
The app allows users to view news about arrests and prosecutions of child predators and additional resources about ICE and its global partners in the fight against child exploitation.
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Disaster App
The SAMHSA Disaster App helps responders focus on people in need by providing resources for any type of traumatic event, including tip sheets; guides for responders, teachers, parents, and caregivers; and a directory of behavioral health service providers in the impacted area. Key preparedness materials are available and information can be shared with others via text message, email, or transfer to a computer for printing.
Safe Helpline App
The Department of Defense Safe Helpline app gives members of the military community access to resources and tools to help manage the short- and long-term effects of sexual assault. The app helps military community members create plans that are right for them, and provides exercises that aid in reducing stress and tools to help members transition to civilian life. Customized plans and exercises can be stored to supplement ongoing therapy.
Suicide Safe
Suicide Safe, SAMHSA's suicide prevention app for mobile devices that is also optimized for tablets, helps providers integrate suicide prevention strategies into their practice and address suicide risk among their patients. Suicide Safe is a free app based on SAMHSA's Suicide Assessment Five-Step Evaluation and Triage pocket card.
Sweat & Toil: Child Labor, Forced Labor, and Human Trafficking Around the World App
Sweat & Toil: Child Labor, Forced Labor, and Human Trafficking Around the World is a comprehensive resource developed by the Bureau of International Labor Affairs, U.S. Department of Labor, documenting child labor and forced labor worldwide. Data and research in this app are taken from three flagship reports:
- Findings on the Worst Forms of Child Labor,
- List of Goods Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor, and
- List of Products Produced by Forced or Indentured Child Labor.
Non-Governmental Apps
MY3 App
The MY3 app, developed by the National Suicide Prevention Hotline, lets users define their network and develop a plan to stay safe, so they can reach out to others when they are struggling with tough emotions or having thoughts of suicide.
PC SAVES Helpline App
The PC SAVES Helpline App provides access to confidential crisis intervention, support, and information for Peace Corps Volunteers and trainees who have been affected by sexual assault.
VINEmobile App
VINEmobile is the mobile app version of VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday), the National Victim Notification Network.
The app allows victims to register for timely and reliable information regarding the custody status of offenders 24 hours a day.
Victims and concerned citizens can register to be notified by phone, email, text message (where applicable), or TTY device when an offender’s custody status changes. Users can also register through their participating state or county toll free number.
