Solicited and Investigator-Initiated Research Project Grants
Within NIMHD’s three main extramural research interest areas—Clinical and Health Services Research, Integrative Biological and Behavioral Sciences, and Community Health and Population Sciences—the Institute supports a wide variety of solicited and investigator-initiated research projects grants (RPGs, e.g., R01, R21, R03, R15, R41/R42, R43/R44). Solicited research projects are funded under various Requests for Applications (RFAs), whereas investigator-initiated research projects are funded under NIH-wide “parent” Program Announcements (PAs), as well as PAs or PARs targeting specific scientific topics (see List of Programs below). All projects must focus on one or more health disparity populations, which include African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, rural populations, and sexual/gender minority groups.
