The Office of Transition and Economic Development ( OTED) launched Economic Investment (EI) Initiatives to connect large Veteran populations of specific geographic regions with benefits, services, and employment opportunities. EI Initiatives include follow-up visits to the selected geographic region six months, 18 months, and three years after the initial event. OTED hosts EI Initiatives twice annually in coordination with VA regional offices.

What to Expect at EI Initiatives

EI Initiatives are typically three-day events with activities for transitioning service members, Veterans, and their families, caregivers, and survivors that may include:

  • A benefits fair to help register for benefits and health care;
  • A claims clinic to file claims for service-connected conditions;
  • A job fair to connect directly with hiring employers; and
  • Health services including on-site evaluations and primary care.

Economic Investment Initiative Goals

The goals of El initiatives are to:

  • Connect service members, Veterans, and their families to VA benefits and federal and local resources for economic advancement.
  • Have service members, Veterans, and their families communicate challenges and successes directly with local and federal government representatives and hear from leaders about initiatives and activities that affect their communities.
  • Bring key players together in the public and private partner sectors to discuss solutions to reduce challenges in the Veteran community and form sustainable public-private partnerships.

Current EI Initiatives

Whether you are a transitioning service member, a Veteran, or count yourself among the friends and family who support those in uniform, attending an EI Initiative event connects you with key benefits and services that can help you find success in civilian life.
