Intern Program

Internships have been postponed until further notice

How to . . . Apply for an internship with my office

Students interested in public service and federal government are encouraged to apply for an internship. Internships are available to undergraduate college students in Senator Feinstein's Washington office as well as her four state offices located in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and Fresno.

Working with the Washington staff gives students a chance to see how the Senate functions and how it interacts with the House of Representatives and the executive and judicial branches. Working in one of the state offices provides a local perspective on how her office helps constituents resolve issues they have with the federal government.

Interns in Washington split their time between assisting legislative staff and working with an administrative department, which include the executive staff, the press office and mail services. In the Washington office, intern duties may include:

  • Tracking legislation and researching issues for the Legislative Assistants.
  • Assisting in drafting statements for the Congressional Record.
  • Attending committee hearings.
  • Handling constituent phone calls and requests.
  • Assisting with correspondence.
  • Giving tours of the Capitol.
  • Assisting with newspaper clippings and conducting research for press projects.

In the state offices, intern duties may include:

  • Drafting constituent letters.
  • Conducting research.
  • Attending community meetings.
  • Helping the staff with advance work for the senator's visits to the state.
  • Opening and sorting mail.
  • Arranging tours for constituents planning to visit Washington.
