About the QUERI Program

QUERI Progams

VA's Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) leverages scientifically-supported quality improvement (QI) methods, paired with a deep understanding of Veterans’ preferences and needs, to implement evidence-based practices (EBPs) rapidly into routine care and improve the quality and safety of care delivered to Veterans.

QUERI's mission is three-fold: 1) Rapid translation of research findings and evidence-based treatments into clinical practice; 2) Increase the impact of research findings through bi-directional partnerships and rigorous evaluations; and 3) Promote implementation science and support VA's transformation to a learning healthcare system.

Since 1998, QUERI has been committed to ensuring that research gets used effectively to ultimately sustain improvements in care for Veterans. QUERI implementation specialists ask crucial questions regarding the intended and unintended impacts of implementing new programs, and the best strategies for accelerating their adoption into practice. QUERI's critical role in achieving the vision of a learning healthcare system will help leaders and providers exemplify the core VA values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Responsibility, and Excellence (I CARE) in treatment delivery.

QUERI’s national network of 200+ clinicians and experts in health services research collaborate with VA leaders, administrators, and frontline providers to implement EBPs, improve measurement and reporting for process improvement, provide training and educational resources for local and national evaluation and implementation efforts, and tailor QI strategies to local needs to promote sustainability of EBPs that address cross-cutting healthcare issues: Population Health, Care Coordination, Safety and Quality, Virtual Care/Telehealth, Personalized Care, Care Continuum, Mental Health, Access, and Health Equity.
