Strategic Plan

The strategic plan covers a five-year period and is the governing document for driving HUD OIG’s direction regarding performance. As we look to the future, we have identified five strategic goals. These goals are as follows:

Strategic Goals
GOAL 1: FURTHER HUD’S MISSION SUCCESS

Assist HUD in developing an effective and efficient means of meeting its housing and community development goals and ensuring the integrity and accountability of program funds and operations.

GOAL 2: ADVANCE OPERATIONAL ECONOMY, EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS

Commit to high standards and continuous improvement activities to ensure that we model performance excellence.

GOAL 3: CULTIVATE POSITIVE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS

Increase engagement with HUD officials and external stakeholders to better understand their perspectives and build trust.

GOAL 4: INVEST IN OURSELVES AND OUR ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE

Invest quality time in developing ourselves at the individual, team and organizational levels and in creating an organizational work culture consistent with our leadership philosophy and core values.

GOAL 5: FOSTER STRATEGIC THINKING AND LONG-TERM PLANNING

Forecast and continuously integrate future agency needs into HUD OIG’s strategy and decision making to sustain short- and long-term success.

ANNUAL PERFORMANCE PLANS AND REPORTS
ANNUAL PERFORMANCE PLANS AND REPORTS

The Annual Performance Plan is a one-year plan, which identifies more specific goals than the strategic plan and that are achievable within one year. At the end of the year, the Annual Performance Report assesses how well HUD OIG performed at meeting its annual goals.

AUDIT WORK PLAN

Audit planning is a continuing process to focus resources on areas of greatest benefit to the taxpayer and HUD. The Office of Audit’s broad goal in developing an audit plan is to help HUD resolve its major management challenges, while maximizing results and providing responsive audits. The audit plan has the following objectives:

Promoting fiscal responsibility and financial accountability
Strengthening the soundness of public and Indian housing
Improving HUD’s execution of and accountability for grant funds
Protecting the integrity of housing insurance and guarantee programs
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND PEER REVIEWS

We maintain a quality assurance program to ensure our work meets policies and procedures, meets standards of performance, and is carried out economically, efficiently, and effectively. HUD OIG’s audit, evaluation, and investigation functions are subject to peer reviews, in accordance with Government Auditing Standards and the Attorney General Guidelines for Federal Office of Inspectors General with Statutory Law Enforcement Authority.

These peer reviews provide an additional, external level of assurance of HUD OIG’s adherence to prescribed standards, regulations, and legislation through a formal objective assessment of its operations. The Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) prescribes the methodology for performing peer reviews. These are the latest peer reviews.
