Software-Defined Networking (SDN)

Software-defined networking research and development is an active area of investigation for ESnet. ESnet developed one of the early SDN-like architectures with OSCARS, a software based advanced reservation and bandwidth calendaring system. In 2010, ESnet build one of the few wide-area SDN testbeds using OpenFlow based switches from NEC. Since then, it has done many impactful projects on SDN including ESnet's Network Operating System (ENOS) and Intent-based application interfaces based on SDN principles.
