Volunteer at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. To best serve the millions of visitors who come each year eager to view the magnificent Thomas Jefferson Building and learn about the treasures it contains, the Library relies on volunteers to greet the visitors and help them plan their visits, assist researchers, and provide tours. As the only Library representative a visitor may meet, a volunteer has an important role in creating positive experiences for all that walk through our doors.

Volunteer at the Library's Young Readers Center in Washington, D.C.

The Young Readers Center Volunteer Program is designed for individuals interested in interacting with children and young adults in a library setting. Volunteers are expected to have some experience working with children in an educational setting, such as a library or classroom. The Library benefits by having both seasoned professionals and students who assist with public outreach, programming, collections, and promotion of the Library's resources. Volunteers typically spend about 10 hours per week on project work that assists with program and material development and collection management. The Young Readers Center Volunteer Program is currently offered virtually in light of the pandemic and will return to an onsite program after the Library of Congress reopens to the public.
