Tuna Tracking and Verification Program
Under this program, we monitor domestic cannery production and importation of all frozen and processed tuna products to ensure compliance with federal regulations regarding dolphin-safe certification.
NOAA Fisheries' Tuna Tracking and Verification Program (TTVP) is the only program recognized by the U.S. government that legally satisfies all applicable federal regulations regarding dolphin-safe certification. The TTVP monitors domestic cannery production and importation of all frozen and processed tuna products nationwide and authenticates any associated dolphin-safe claim.
For tuna products caught in the eastern Pacific Ocean by large purse seine vessels, both the international and the U.S. tracking programs rely on IDCP-approved observer records made on board the vessel. Among other forms, each observer records set-by-set information on tuna tracking forms (PDF, 4 pages).
