Dr. Javaid Perwaiz was arrested November 8, 2019 on federal health care fraud charges brought in the Eastern District of Virginia. According to allegations detailed in court documents, for nearly a decade, Perwaiz performed unnecessary gynecological surgeries on unsuspecting patients, including hysterectomies, dilation and curettage procedures, removal of ovaries and Fallopian tubes, and others. He also submitted materially false, fraudulent, and fictitious claims to two health care benefit programs seeking reimbursement for these surgeries.
