The Arctic Energy Office (AEO) brings together assets from across the Department of Energy to work together in collaborative and innovated ways to meet the energy, science, and national security needs of the United States and its allies.
Mission
The Arctic Energy Office will lead cross-cutting operations in the Arctic with a mission to tackle the energy, science and national security challenges of the 21st Century. The office will act as a nexus for DOE activities and represent the Department in engagements involving the Arctic.

Launch
U.S. Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette officially announces the re-establishment of the Arctic Energy Office.
Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Lisa Murkowski thanks Secretary Brouillette, Deputy Secretary Menezes, and DOE, for re-establishing the Arctic Energy Office.
Partnerships
The Arctic Energy Office will work in partnership with other DOE organizations, including the Office of Science, Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Office of Fossil Energy, and Office of Indian Energy, and with the DOE national laboratories (e.g., Arctic Laboratory Partnerships consortium).
The University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF) is a key partner with the AEO. The AEO’s office will be located on the UAF campus, providing immediate proximity to its array of arctic research expertise and resources, UAF’s Alaska Center for Energy and Power testing facility, the Cold Climate Housing Research Center operated by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and the Permafrost Tunnel Research Facility maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
